Summary-Nonverbal Vehavior: Some Intricate and Diverse Dimensions in Intercultural Communication

John Smith worked in Puerto Rico and returned to New York from a vacation. He thought that people there are not organized and gave an example about his experience in the largest department store in San Juan. As soon as he arrived the department store, the salesman greeted him and asked what he could do for him. John thanked the salesman and didn't want to interrupt the other customers. After a while, other people arrived and interrupted so he was furious and waiting for his turn.
People who live in different cultures make this misunderstanding emerge. John Smith can't speak nonverbal language of Puerto Rico. John's North American culture is a monochronic pattern that people are served one at a time and each person si served in the orer of arrival. However, the culture in Puerto Rico is a polychronic concept is opposite. The salesman tried to serve all customers at the same time.
