Linguistics or Literature?

Now is April and after two months, we'll finish the first year in the university. As an FLL student, we have to choose what we want to major, lingistics or literature. After the midterms of the two area, I foun that it's a difficult decision to me. Why is it so difficult? The main reason is that I'm not really into FLL.
To me, linguistics is a subject that I have to memorize a lot. I should have good logical thinking and good ability of memorize lots of difinitions. Although I don't really like to remember those things, I still can try hard to memorize. Besides, literature is a subject that I have to read a lot and think more. I should have many ideas about a text. It's so difficult to me! I envy many classmates that they can have lots of different ideas after reading a text. When I wrote my midterm paper, I spent much time thinking what I should write, however; I still wrote a few. I think that I should consider more and find what I fit in.
By the way, we got an e-mail from FLL office. It talks about the lack of teachers. It's not a good phenomenon to a department. I hope FLL can find more teachers in the future.

I didn't chose literature because I don't think I have the sense of seeing the undercurrent of literature works, either. Having no sense will be a nightmare if you take this road, I think. Instead, I chose applied linguistics (TESOL-"Teaching English as a Second or Other Language" is one of the applied linguistics). Linguistics, well not "pure" linguistics, can be really interesting if you dig into it. As for your worry, you can talk to your advisor and try to get some help from him/her.
