Before the movie, Slumdog Millionaire, released in Taiwan, I’ve heard of lots of discussion and reputation about it. It was these motivations urged me to see the movie.
The leading character, Jamal Malik, who attended a TV program called “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” The questions in the program were difficult even the well-educated people like lawyers and doctors couldn’t answer all questions correctly. However, Jamal did. He has won 10000000 rupees and has made it to the final question, for 20000000 rupees. How could a person who comes from Juhu slums did it? Did he cheat? This suspicion made Jamal were exacted confession by means of torture by police. But he insisted his innocence and told the police thathe learned the answers from the past experience of his life. And the flashbacks started….
After seeing this movie, I regretted to eat snacks in the theater because of some disgusting scenes. The poverty, violence, conflicts between Muslim and Hinduism and so forth are presented in this film. The controversy of the film arose as well as its fame. For me, I just want to see the movie in my own perspective. The series unbelievable events happened in Jamal’s childhood isn’t unfamiliar to me, who learned them from the text books. However, the visual scenes impressed me more than text books despite I haven’t ever gone through in person.
This kind of film which contains lots of unbearable things usually not my style though it did convey something meaningful to us. Why could this movie get favors of the audiences? My opinion is that the situation of the spectators who waited for Jamal’s success in front of the television just like the position of us who anticipate the miracle occurs from financial crisis in the near future.
