Arsene Lupin, a character created by a Franch writter Maurice Leblanc, is a thief who is great at imitating other's voice, disguising other's looks,and entering and bring out his target from the building which is guarded sternly by the police with ease. No one in the world knows his truly look and original voice. In short, Lupin is a figure covered by thick fog to the public.
What makes him an attractive gentle thief is that he always steal precious artistic production such as paintings, statuary, and sometimes dimonds or jewelry from politicians and nobles who get their money, authority and fame through illegal and ashame measures. He kept some of his captures in a secret storehouse for appreciating by himself. But most of the time, he usually sells the stolen items for money and donate it to orphanage and philanthropic institution. The reason that makes him to do that may be out of his compassion since he was also growing up from that kind of environment without complete love. That's why he is notorious to the police and authority people, though, being admired by the society.
As a patriot, he once had stolen the blueprint of submarine from Germany to Franch government. And then he joins the French army during World War Two as a doctor since he is also knowledgeable on medical science. Moreover, his courteous manner attracts almost every women who met him, that is how the title "gentle thief" comes from.
Although Sherlock Holmes is more well-known then Lupin in the world of dective, but for me, a character with such special disposition different from the stereotype we would have toward thief before, he is really out-standing.

Not knowing what to read, I browsed through the New York times to find some interesting articles and one word grasped my attention. " Shakespeare", I know he is super famous but, honestly, as a English major student I know little about him. Therefore I chose this article to be the subject of my first journal entry; however, what the article is writing is far beyond my expectation.
This article shows some opinion about a painting of a well-dressed Elizabethan man which was taken from the private collection of an aristocratic Anglo-Irish family, the Cobbes. This painting has drawn so much attention because many people think it is the portrayal of William Shakespear, the significant play-writer with little biographical information. However the author argues that the hunger for the more about Shakespeare's biography is not necessary. He thinks that Shakespear represents the force of the creative mind, but he also embodies the pastness of the past." Every claim to have found some relic of the original Shakespeare, the author says,is just another reminder that his work needs no biography at all."
In my opinion, I really agree with the author's opinion that a great person's achievement won't mean less to us even if we know little about personal information. Moreover, I even think that people's remarkable achievement in some specific area should be rewarded independently. We really don't need to care about what they are. Well, I admit that curiosity is the human nature but I think we shouldn't be so eager to find someone's privacy even if he or she is dead. I consider that it is always more adorable that some mystery remains unknown; after all, reality is usually cruel.

There is an article in The New York Time. And its title is : Some Low-Tech Fixes for High-Tech Problems. This article talks about that some high- tech products' problems can be solved by some tricks. I think some tricks are worth sharing with you:
1. Do you know that your cellphone will lose its battery charge fast if you put it in your pocket? Part of the reason is your pocket is warm that might speed up chemical processes inside the cellphone's battery. That makes it lose charge faster. So that means the battery lasts longer if kept in cool. And the article suggests us to put our cellphones in the refrigerator to make the batteries not lose charge quickly...... do you want to try?
2. No one wants this happens: dropping the cellphone in the water( in the article is in the toilet, I change the word.) But it could happen to anyone(it is not a curse.) According to the article, if you dropped your cellphone in the water, you should scoop up it and take the battery out as soon as you can instead of just looking at your cellphone bubbling in the water. And then cover it with uncooked rice(<--extravagant!!). Because rice has high chemical affinity for water, so that rice can avoid water invading deeper into the cellphone. (......==)

Movie:Slumdog Millionaire; novel:Q&A
In recent days, here is a popular movie in the world (Yes! Not only in Taiwan but in the whole world! ),called Slumdog Millionaire. It portrays a dramatic experience of the main character. In addition to its exciting plots, it also consists of many social issues, making the audience realize the unique life style in India. Watching Slumdog Millionaire, the characters' personalities touched me a lot. Not only the main character's bravery and determination but also his girlfriend's patience inspired me as well as made me feel sorry for them from the bottom of my heart. It is not surprising that the film become the most popular film in the world. A great number of business films just try to entertain the audience, making them laugh, just anticipating them to spend money on their"products"; however, Slumdog Millionaire has us reflect rather than merely watching.
What's more, I have read its original novel, named Q&A. Through reading this fiction, I found that there are a lot of differences from the movie. Its depiction is much more detailed than the movie, letting me clearly understand how the whole incident happened. The author's ability of describing scenes is awfully perfect as if the entire events performed in front of me.
I am really fond of the film along with the original fiction. It does not just play a role to amuse people, it also educate me to learn more about the different culture. Here, I recommend you the most meaningful movie Slumdog Millionaire. Watch it at once, or you will regret!

Good example to share -- Reiki Contributes to Good Health (by last year student Kelly)
Reiki treatment may sound very strange to most people in Taiwan. It is originated in Tibet thousand years ago, and then rediscovered by a Japanese named Mikao Usui in the early 20th century. Rei means spiritual and ki means energy or life force, so Reiki means a kind of universal life energy. Reiki treatment uses the universal life energy to treat physical or mental diseases. There are many ways such as aromatherapy and massage which Reiki uses resulting in good health.
Reiki practitioners use a technique similar to the laying on hands which they say will channel "healing energy". To my surprise, this kind of treatment can heal not only humans but also animals and plants. Because every kind of creature has ki in their body. Patients usually are asked to lie down on the bed and relax. Then, Reiki practitioners use their hands as an access to let healing energy enter to the patient's body. Reiki can be used for patients and self-treatment. There are more and more people paying their attention to Reiki therapy. Reiki provides a way different from medical therapy to well-being.
Though some people think Reiki is fraud, there still are many groups established all over the world. In Japan, America, and even Taiwan, Reiki institutes have been founded to improve human's health. Good writing to share -- Not Least but Better (by Nancy)
The issue of whether school being single-sex or co-education has constantly been controversial. Many parents and educators have always stood on the opposite side against coed learning. However, coeducation with both sexes is like a mixer of two different colors, which could enrich adolescent lives. The more we give ourselves chances to understand the merits of coed, the better we will become appreciated of it.
Speaking of the advantages of coed, numerous of them are worth discussing. Among all the goods, learning how to get along with the opposite sex is the one known to everyone. People grow up from various backgrounds and are endowed with different features and characteristics, not to mention the divergences between the opposite sexes. Coed school enables us to acquire the wisdom of mutual respect and being considerate. Moreover, school is like an epitome of the society including both sexes; learning in a coed school could cultivate maturity of students for further adaption of their future lives.
In addition, multi-development is the one benefits the most from coed learning. Males and females are skilled in different fields; only via peer-cooperation could the learners form the ability of multiple thinking. Besides, competition is also the advantage of coed learning. Learners under this aura could be challenged and encouraged to perform well than other peers. In the long run, fully growth is expected to be seen.
Many aspects might be questioned by parents and educators about its possible affection between teenagers. In these days, there are still many opinions and arguments about which studying environment is better for students─coeducation or single-sex among experts and parents. In my opinion, I regard coeducation as the better one because it brings about two greatest advantages of it. One is that coeducation helps both boys and girls respect each other instead of stereotype. The other is that we can learn to know the differences of thinking and reactions to things between boys and girls.
Take myself for example. I studied in Wen-Hua Senior High, a coed school which makes me have a wider perspective on the differences. As far as my childhood concerned. I still remember that boys always put their life emphasis on play and they sometimes seem to be childish. However, when I was accepted into Wen-Hua, I found the fact that boys are considerate toward many things and concentrate on their study as well. For instance, once I was in a bad mood because of not doing well on mid-term exam. All of a sudden, a boy, my classmate came to me and tried to understand what happened. Then, he gave me some chocolate and told me that did not be so worried about it and many of our classmates would give me a hand if I need.I was so touched at that moment. This event gives me a shock in fact for I've never thought that a boy's mind could be so tender. From then on, I started to be open-minded to boys.
Respecting is an important lesson we have to learn, especially including gender. Another example is that although Wen-Hua is a coed school, in proportion, there are more girls than boys. In other words, it appears that sometimes girls have superior position. Nevertheless, I could also feel gender equality between us. Nowadays, there are two kinds of school forms existing on the earth. As for me, I would prefer the coed school than the single-sex school. I think coed school can make students develop in coordination due to that everyone is living in the global village, and it is inevitable that everybody is always contacting with each gender. Students who study in the coed school have a lot of chances to learn how to get along with the opposite sex. Interaction and communication between each sex play vital roles in our daily life.
For example, I studied in the coed school in senior high. My classmates often gather together to discuss not only studies but our differences and our inner thoughts. There are no obstacles to interacting with us. We even play jokes on others without any odd feelings such as embarrassment, self-consciousness. However, as for my friend who studied in the single sex school still has some difficulties communicating with the opposite sex. They lack experiences to talk with the opposite sex so that they are too shy to face others. On the contrary, I feel at home while chatting with boys without any unnecessary, em-brassed barriers. After reading the report which says that "they started to watch their male peers outperform them in math and science. As boys begin to gain confidence, girls star to lose it." As for me and my own experience in senior high, I hold a reverse thinking. Up to now, a large number of people may still have the stereotype that boys are excel in mathematics and science; the other way round, girls must be good at art and literature. Nevertheless, we can see a variety of "exceptions" in my senior high, but we are willing to accept those "exceptions" and help one another to improve the subject which they are not clever at. Besides, each gender can learn to respect others and fit in each. Schools today have a variety of diverse kinds, such as single-sex ones or coed ones. What are your opinions about them? And which one would you choose for your children? The following are some of my points of view and own experiences with regard to coed campus during my learning journey.
There are both pros and cons of a coed school. One of the advantages of coed school is that everyone will be treated equal no matter girls or boys. And there are no questions about the separation of the sex differences. The other merit is that coed schools develop our maturities and self-esteems, helping us to improve our communication skills; the schools with dissimilar sexes promote awareness, helping us to learn more about ourselves and others. On the other hand,--well goes on an old saying, "There are two sides to one coin." --coed school brings some problems about teen dating. Many arguments about this issue have in debated: dating may distract someone; dating may hurt academic performance; dating may hide career success, and so on. Because of lacking the wisdom and self-control, it is pretty dangerous for teens that do not emotionally ready to deal with the complexities and demands of a relationship.
For my own experiences, I have been all in coed schools from kindergarten to university. With my perspective, it is gracious and jubilant to be in a coed campus. Since I was in a wind band in junior high, there must need someone to play the heavy, huge instruments--tuba, baritone, for example. At this situation, it is more considerate and suitable that my classmates who are male play with them. Still, when we have a performance or concert, we, both sexes, cooperate to transport our public instruments, especially percussion instruments. In addition, I was in a coed high school as well. I dared to say, the most beautiful memory that we created together is in our PE class which we play basketball with a strong team, including boys and girls. The harmonious relationships and cordial atmosphere are beyond description. I pretty cherish the time we, both genders, got together.
Generally speaking, in my opinion, coed education is superior to single-sex education. In a coed school, we learn how to socialize with people; how to deal with others; how to manage our relations, particularly between different sex distinctions. With these above interaction skills, we will be vigorous when we engage in social functions in the future.

The advantages and disadvantages of cooperative learning (by Nancy)
We can never imagine what a wonder cooperation could be in helping one to accomplish tasks. In cooperative learning, people from various backgrounds rallying together, like a small society, to share or exchange their opinions. In this atmosphere, a marvelous achievement is always worthy to be expected. However, no matter how fantastic cooperative learning could be, we can not ignore the negative effects it could bring to us.
Cooperative learning is like a magic trick, turning an ordinary, plain work into a masterpiece. Related to its advantages, many of them are worth discussing. It is known that creativity would be the one achieved the most in working cooperatively. Via everyone’s ingenuity, the work could even reach to its supremacy. Moreover, the experiences of interacting and socializing with partners deserve our paying efforts. During the processes of negotiating with every participant, we could learn to respect and appreciate different opinions. Last but not least, cooperative learning provides us chances of self-examination. Through constantly comparing others’ valuable thoughts with ours, we could do the work of self-learning as well. Gradually, obvious improvements would remain to be seen.
Though so many merits of cooperative learning are acknowledged, some drawbacks exist. First of all, it can not be denied that cooperative learning is very time-consuming. Different peope have various ideas, hence, reaching an agreement or consensus becomes a difficult job. Imagine we are well-scheduled with numeruos works awaited; however, most of our precious time should be spent on arranging meetings and group discussing. We probably might get mad at inability to accomplish our plans as expected. Furthermore, in cooperative learning, job assignment becomes another controversial issue. The unfairness of duty attirbuted sometimes will result in arguements. In addition to quarrels caused by duty assignment, conflicts might often happen in cooperative learning. Divergent views coming from different members is the key to arouse the struggles. Therefore, the ability and wisdom of coordination thus becomes an important issue to be acquired.
The advantages of cooperative learning are known to everyone; nonetheless, hardly do we know its shortcomings. It is every member's responsibility to face the challenges together. All in all, only if we make efforts to conquer the hinders could we benefit the most from learning.

Imagine we are well-scheduled with numeruos works awaited; however, most of our precious time should be spent on arranging meetings and group discussing. We probably might get mad at inability to accomplish our plans as expected. Furthermore, in cooperative learning, job assignment becomes another controversial issue. The unfairness of duty attirbuted sometimes will result in arguements. In addition to quarrels caused by duty assignment, conflicts might often happen in cooperative learning. Divergent views coming from different members is the key to arouse the struggles. Therefore, the ability and wisdom of coordination thus becomes an important issue to be acquired.
The advantages of cooperative learning are known to everyone; nonetheless, hardly do we know its shortcomings. It is every member's responsibility to face the challenges together. All in all, only if we make efforts to conquer the hinders could we benefit the most from learning.
